Yubby outage due to Amazon crash

April 22, 2011Remco Bron

You might have noticed Yubby was offline yesterday and for sometime today. First we would like to apologize for this unplanned outage and explain to you what happened.

Like many websites Yubby is hosted on the servers of Amazon also known as the Amazon cloud. This is by far one of the safest and fastest locations for any website. That’s why companies like Foursquare, Reddit, Hootsuite and many others choose for this solution.

However, yesterday something went terribly wrong at Amazon. Without going into too much detail it comes down to human error; someone turned on a full back-up of the many many terabytes of the Amazon clouds which stated to copy data from one data center to another not only clogging the tubes but also bringing down all websites hosted on these servers.

Now Yubby is back online and all systems are functionally normally. Wen can assure you non of your data was lost during the outage or any of your information compromised. We will take measures to try to avoid outages like this in the future although we realize it nearly impossible to arm ourselves against human stupidity…

If you want to read more about the outage please check Mashable, Techcrunch and many other publications that covered the incident. If you have any questions or concerns please let us know: hello@yubby.com or @Yubby on Twitter.

Yubby and Sony team up to bring you video

May 12, 2010Remco Bron

Here at Yubby we love Sony products so we decided to team up with Sony to bring you the best Sony product videos and Sony product reviews you can find in the videosphere. Sony created channels for their products like the Cyber-Shot and Sony Alpha camera, Bravia TV, Playstation, Walkman, and many other product lines.

Below you can browse through their different channels. Also keep an eye on their Yubby profile because they will be adding more and more channels the coming weeks!

Besides the channels on Yubby Sony also integrated the Sony product video channels on their own website using Yubby widgets. For example on their Sony Walkman or the Sony bloggie page you can watch the Sony videos through the Yubby widget.

Known bug: banner uploader with OSX

April 15, 2010Remco Bron

We are experiencing some problems with the banner uploader for Mac OSX users. When uploading a banner in the channel admin screen the uploader could stall halfway during the process. As far as we know this only affects Mac users with Firefox or Safari running the latest Mac OSX updates. This is a known bug and we are working on resolving it ASAP.

Update: It works again. Keep calm and carry on
