Yubby outage due to Amazon crash
April 22, 2011
You might have noticed Yubby was offline yesterday and for sometime today. First we would like to apologize for this unplanned outage and explain to you what happened.
Like many websites Yubby is hosted on the servers of Amazon also known as the Amazon cloud. This is by far one of the safest and fastest locations for any website. That’s why companies like Foursquare, Reddit, Hootsuite and many others choose for this solution.
However, yesterday something went terribly wrong at Amazon. Without going into too much detail it comes down to human error; someone turned on a full back-up of the many many terabytes of the Amazon clouds which stated to copy data from one data center to another not only clogging the tubes but also bringing down all websites hosted on these servers.
Now Yubby is back online and all systems are functionally normally. Wen can assure you non of your data was lost during the outage or any of your information compromised. We will take measures to try to avoid outages like this in the future although we realize it nearly impossible to arm ourselves against human stupidity…
If you want to read more about the outage please check Mashable, Techcrunch and many other publications that covered the incident. If you have any questions or concerns please let us know: hello@yubby.com or @Yubby on Twitter.
